Starting a fitness journey can appear challenging or scary, but it doesn't have to be! We chatted with health blogger, Jasmine (find her at @jasminedoesketo), to get a glimpse into why she kick started her health and fitness journey, and how she maintains it. The main secret? Keeping it simple.
What do you think is the most important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle?
I think feeling good about yourself is the best part of living a healthy lifestyle. When I eat well and exercise consistently, I feel amazing. Taking care of your body is the best form of self care.
What is your favorite form of working out?
Definitely running. I have come so far this year alone as a runner, even completing my first race. I love the endorphins and sense of accomplishment you get from setting a personal record.
How do you create balance in your life (with working out, healthy eating, family, etc.)?
I’m very Type A—firm believer of 'fail to plan, plan to fail'. I have a very tight schedule during the week so I’ll meal prep healthy options on the weekends with my husband. I wake up early to accomplish my workouts then I homeschool my two kids. The evening is spent watching family shows and spending time
together.
What is your go-to meal?
Steak and eggs! So much protein and always satisfying without the carbs.
What impact has the keto diet had on your life?
I’ve learned so much about foods and macros on the keto diet. It was hard for me to lose weight and I thought the only way was cutting calories. I learned very quickly that wasn’t true. I’m never hungry on the keto diet thanks to the consumption of healthy fats. It’s totally changed my perspective of “dieting”.
When Jasmine started the keto diet, she combined her love of cooking and taking photos of food by starting her Instagram account @jasminedoesketo. What started as a daily log of what she ate on a day to day basis turned into a source of inspiration, showing people how easy and delicious the keto diet can be.
What inspired you to get started on your health journey?
After having kids and having my hormones out of whack, my body changed a lot. I didn’t feel as confident and I also didn’t feel healthy. I knew it was time for a change. A year and a half later I feel so good in the skin I’m in and I feel fitter than I’ve ever been.
What is one piece of advice you’d give someone just starting their health journey?
Make it simple. A health journey does not have to be complicated but it needs to be sustainable. Caring about your overall health is a lifestyle change.
What motivates you to workout and eat healthy?
My kids! I want them to see their parents caring about their health and continuing to be athletic. They watch everything we do so when they see us being active they also want to be active.
