Amiarie is wearing our June look, Spot On.
Yoga has so many benefits, more than just physically. It’s important to keep your body active and moving, and a yoga flow is the perfect way to do so. Amiarie is a teacher, but practices yoga regularly. We’re getting to know her a little better before she shares one of her practices with you! We dive into what draws her to yoga, how she’s handled being in quarantine, and what things are most important to her in life. Let’s flow!
What is your favorite way to work out?
I love yoga! In the summer, I practice every day, and in the winter, twice a week. But I love to hike and waterski in the summer, as well as ski and snowboard in the winter.
How has yoga impacted your life?
I began practicing inversions several years ago when I was dealing with debilitating insomnia, vertigo, and overwhelming ear pressure. The medicines I was prescribed made me feel horrible and I began looking for alternatives. Inverting was the only way that I could pop my ears and relieve some of the pressure, dizziness, and vertigo. Plus, they are literally a blast! I find them exhilarating and energizing, which allowed me to combat the exhaustion from never sleeping. Yoga has provided me relief from stress and an outlet for emotions that I never understood I needed to feel, experience, and then release. Yoga truly is a form of therapy. I find myself to be more calm, but also more self-aware of my emotions. Yoga has increased my self-confidence, self-respect, and appreciation for my body and its strengths.
How do you stay balanced?
I believe in living! I find pleasure in the small things and I try to enjoy whatever I am doing at the moment. My kids come first — 100% — and they make my life better in every way! During the school year when I am teaching, I don’t find much “me time”, but I am okay with that because I love what I do. I also live with no regrets and I don’t limit myself.
During quarantine, what are ways you stayed active?
My kids and I hiked every single day with our two dogs. We have mountains literally out the front door! I also did yoga every single day for exercise, but even more so for mental health.
What are other things that have helped you get through quarantine?
I feel that quarantine showed me what and who in my life are truly important. It helped me to weed out the negative energies and focus on what truly matters. We also cut back on a lot of things that I realized we really don’t need.

She loves being a mother, as well as being outside. She spends winters skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, while her summer go-tos are camping, hiking, boating, and waterskiing.
